I had 1 son, Kai. We always wanted a family of 3 and the time was right to add number 2 to our family.. I was spotting and had an early scan identifying that I was carrying Twins! We spent the rest of the day with huge grins on our faces, saying 2....TWO!!!!!
Needless to say, I had no idea what the pregnancy would bring! My son was born naturally at 10lbs 4 so i knew I was unlikely to have tiny twins! I spent the whole pregnancy feeling hideously nauseous, developed carpol tunnel, Pelvic problems, insomnia, HeartBurn, oh the list is endless! I suffered with low blood pressure (apart from my last few weeks)! Which left me feeling dizzy a lot and needing to eat sugar!
I went from 12 stone to 21 stone!!!! (i did eat rather a lot)!
Every check and scan i had they told me that everything was going swimmingly and I just had to count the days down! On week 32 I met with the consultant and had another scan, where it was noted that twin 1 was breech and twin 2 was transverse!

We decided to find out the sexes at this scan and the sonographer gave my son (who was 7 at the time) a piece of paper with it written on. It was a lovely way of keeping him as involved as possible and he told us we were expecting a Boy and Girl! We were all really pleased!
At my week 34 scan I was in so much pain with my pelvis and finding it very hard to stand never mind do anything else! When i saw the consultant i broke down and begged him to bring my section (scheduled for 38 weeks) forward! He gave me another detailed scan and booked me in on week 36.
I was terrified of having a section..... My son was born naturally so I had no idea what a section would entail and i didn't like the idea of having such a long recovery period i'd heard you had following a section!
On the morning of 30th May 2008, I booked myself in and met the midwifery team coming to theatre with me! 2 hours later Scarlet-Rose 6lb 15oz was born first, followed 1 minute later by Reuben weighing in at a modest 7Lb 12oz!!! No wonder I was so uncomfortable! I dread to think what another 2 weeks would have meant!
My recovery was far far quicker following sugery than it was following natural childbirth! I'm a section fan now!
Kai has just turned 10 and Scarlet-Rose & Reuben will turn 2 in a few weeks! The first 18 months has been very very time consuming and hectic... I've felt guilty that Kai's had to take a back seat up to now, but he's been a wonderful big brother and a wonderful son, helping me and playing with his Sister and Brother at every opportunity!
Things are getting easier now and I try and spend time with every child on their own each day! Dad's very hands on so that helps!
In the early days the question that popped up daily would be "Are they identical"....? Even people who KNEW they were a girl and boy! What's that about?????
When people see me out now they often say "2....You have your work cut out for you don't you"? or "double Trouble there"! I just smile..... Double trouble, Double fun, double love, double kissess, double Laughs Friends for life, partners in crime..... However you look at it, I feel truely blessed to have 3 happy, healthy children who I love dearly and who all love one another.
